Cities across the UK and Europe are rethinking how citizens access items and embedding sharing libraries as a key community resource that makes it more affordable, sustainable and circular to share rather than buy new.
In London, Library of Things is powering a city-wide network of 22 sharing libraries in partnership with local authorities, housing developers and organisations who are committed to building a more sustainable city.
We’re embedding sharing into the daily routines of Londoners and empowering a growing community to learn the skills required to unlock circular behaviours like mending and repair at scale.
Download our 2024/25 impact report to access our insights on the behaviours and motivators driving the early adoption of sharing and circular behaviours.

Consumerism isn’t working for us, our pockets or our planet
Since 2014, we’ve been on a mission to make borrowing better than buying – more affordable, convenient, socially-rewarding & kinder to the planet.
Tackling climate

I borrowed the sewing machine to volunteer at the Southfields Repair Cafe. I had a great time using the machine to repair some shorts, trousers and a cap for residents. It was great to connect and sew alongside other sewers to help out the community and promote a circular economy.

Saving money

“I loved The Library of Things! With £8 I transformed my baby cot into a toddler bed, I saved the money to purchase a jigsaw or a new bed and mostly I saved more waste from the environment.
A virtuous concept with countless benefits!”

Tackling clutter

"I always wanted to try a waffle maker, but as I started searching for one, I got lost in brands and reviews.
As a minimalist person, I don't want to have to many things at home. [...] I think I'll borrow it again!"
